DABOLIM: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho emphasized that Goa’s taxi industry must embrace technology, stating that app-based taxi services will be mandatory in the state to improve convenience for tourists and residents alike.
Godinho highlighted the government’s intention to resolve ongoing complaints against taxi operators by encouraging the use of digital platforms.
He noted that the recently issued Transport Aggregator Guidelines, published on May 20, 2025, are currently under a 30-day public consultation period during which feedback and suggestions are being collected.
“All valid inputs will be considered before finalizing the guidelines,” the minister said, adding that consultative meetings with stakeholders will also be held.
Encouraging traditional taxi owners to develop their own apps, Godinho offered government funding support for such initiatives.
He cited GoaMiles, with more than 4,000 taxis and a driver base comprising 90% Goans, as a successful example of a tech-enabled taxi model.
Meanwhile, the government has stopped issuing new licenses under the rent-a-car and franchise systems.
Godinho warned that some permits may not be renewed if operators fail to provide designated parking spaces, signaling stricter regulation to bring order to the sector.
