Ponda: A transporter from Santa Cruz, Ponda, has allegedly been cheated of Rs 2.80 lakh by unknown persons in an online truck booking scam.
According to police, the complaint was lodged by Anil Kumar Singh, a resident of Santa Cruz, Ponda. He stated that between February 3 and February 10, unknown persons contacted him over his mobile phone offering transportation services for delivering a consignment from Mangalore to Chhattisgarh, assuring that payment would be cleared on the same day.
The complainant further stated that different individuals, posing as truck drivers, contacted him from various mobile numbers and promised to arrange trucks for the transportation. They allegedly demanded advance payment and shared a PhonePe UPI scanner for the transfer of funds.
Believing their assurances, the complainant transferred money through multiple UPI transactions, amounting to a total of Rs 2,80,000.
However, after receiving the payment, the accused persons failed to provide the trucks as promised and did not return the amount, thereby allegedly cheating the complainant of Rs 2.80 lakh.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Bansal Naik of Ponda Police Station.
