PANAJI: Trial run of Porvorim Traffic Diversion has started from today morning and will go on till tomorrow.
Traffic originating from Sucorro will move through the existing service road, while traffic in Porvorim will be rerouted from the Delfino side towards an alternate service road.
Based on the outcome of the trial run, diversions plan to be effective till Dec 7, in view of construction of the six-lane elevated corridor will be finalised.
At both intersections, traffic will be diverted to the service roads for the duration of the trial run. To alert drivers to the diversions, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has erected signboards.
At the Teen Building intersection, traffic from Mapusa to Panaji will be rerouted onto the left service road. To oversee the diversion, police officials from Porvorim Traffic Police and all of North Goa’s Traffic Police Cells would be stationed at both intersections. Officers from the NHAI will also be there.
In order to determine whether to extend the diversion for the duration of the corridor work, the officials will keep an eye on traffic flow throughout the trial. Heavy trucks traveling to Mapusa from Maharashtra via Patradevi will be detoured via Banda, Dodamarg, and Bicholim.
Tomorrow, the State government and the district collectors of Sindhudurg and Belagavi will release a notification regarding additional traffic alterations from Marcela via Chorla Ghat to Mapusa and Panaji.
According to Khaunte, the flyover’s construction will be finished in two years in phases. Regarding traffic diversion, Khaunte stated that he and the nearby panchayats have contributed in order to minimize traffic disruption while the work is being done.
He stated that a thorough traffic diversion plan will be provided by the contractor, other agencies, and the principal chief engineer of PWD. According to Khaunte, the CM has also given orders to guarantee efficient traffic flow with minimal disruption to the community.
He says that efforts to widen some highways will also soon be undertaken. Khaunte stated the CM has promised to take care of the heavy truck diversion onto “outside” roadways.
