CANACONA: A delegation from the Tripura State Biodiversity Board, currently on a visit to Goa, met and interacted with the award-winning Shristhal Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) at Shristhal in Canacona on Wednesday.
During the interaction, members of the Tripura delegation gathered information on the functioning of the Shristhal BMC and the various initiatives undertaken by the committee. The visiting team included Amina Das, Rakesh Das, Kaushik Mujumdar, Sougat Deb, Animesh Saha and Biprajit Roy.
The delegation appreciated the activities implemented by the Shristhal BMC, with special mention of the recently organised Ran-Bhaji (wild vegetable) festival. They were also briefed on the committee’s awareness campaigns, tree plantation drives and other conservation initiatives. The visiting members showed particular interest in obtaining details of the ‘Vaidya Mitra’ scheme.
The delegation was welcomed by Shristhal BMC Chairman Vinay Tubaki, followed by a presentation on the committee’s work by member Shirish Pai. Committee Secretary Sushant Naik Gaonkar and member Tejas Naik Gaonkar were also present.
Later, the Tripura delegation visited the shrine of Lord Mallikarjun, where they inspected the ‘Jarmal’ tree and gathered further information about its significance.
