CANACONA/COLVA: Goa witnessed two tragic road accidents on Saturday — one involving cattle in Canacona and another that claimed the life of a woman in Betalbatim.
In the first incident, Canacona Police reported that around 3.25 am, an unidentified truck driver, proceeding from Polem towards Margao, rammed into a herd of cattle near the Indian Oil Petrol Pump at Dapot. Eleven cattle were killed on the spot. The driver fled after the accident. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway with ASI Anand Naik.
In another fatal mishap, Colva Police said that around 11.03 am, George Dias of Navelim, driver of a local passenger bus, recklessly ran over a woman pedestrian in Betalbatim. The deceased was identified as Berta Maria Assuncao Mascarenhas e Pinto of Nagwaddo, Betalbatim.
The accident occurred in front of Jasminn Hotel shortly after she had alighted from the same bus. Police stated that the driver, without taking proper care, hit her as she walked along the left side of the road. She sustained grievous injuries and succumbed while undergoing treatment at South District Hospital, Margao.
Both cases are under investigation.
