New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has claimed that he could easily mediate peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan, describing it as his potential “ninth” conflict to resolve. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he was aware of tensions between the two neighbours and suggested that resolving their dispute would be “an easy one” for him.
He remarked that while managing the responsibilities of running the United States remains his priority, he enjoys “solving wars” and believes he could help end the long-standing hostility between Islamabad and Kabul. Trump added that there had been attacks involving the two countries but maintained confidence in his ability to broker peace if needed.
The American leader once again repeated his controversial assertion of having “solved eight wars,” citing regions like Rwanda, the Congo, and even India and Pakistan as examples. He has previously claimed credit for easing tensions between the South Asian neighbours, though India has consistently clarified that the ceasefire understanding with Pakistan was reached independently through military-level discussions, without external mediation.
Trump also expressed disappointment at not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming that his peace efforts had saved “tens of millions of lives.” He said others had received the honour instead, including “a very nice woman,” but insisted that recognition was not his goal.
“Every time I solved a war, they said if I solved the next one, I’d get the Nobel Prize,” he said. “I didn’t get it, but that’s fine. I just care about saving lives.” Trump concluded by saying that bringing peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan would be the “ninth war” on his list, calling it a challenge he could handle with ease.
