Panaji: The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) has welcomed the recent discussion in the Goa Assembly on extending sound restrictions beyond 10 pm, but stressed the need for a balanced approach that safeguards residents’ interests while supporting the tourism and events industry.
TTAG clarified that indoor venues with proper permissions and effective soundproofing should be allowed to operate at any time permissible under the law, as these do not disturb surrounding residential areas. However, the association maintained that outdoor events should only be extended from the current 10 pm cut-off to 11 pm, and strictly within permissible decibel levels. Extending beyond 11 pm, TTAG cautioned, would negatively impact people living nearby.
The association also emphasised that in areas like Anjuna and Vagator—where repeated noise complaints have led to court interventions—sound limits must be strictly enforced to protect residents.
TTAG reiterated its earlier recommendations to the government for a uniform sound extension until 11 pm and excise service until midnight for all venues with the necessary permissions. Such measures, it said, would boost events, restaurants, shacks, and other hospitality spaces, while still addressing the concerns of neighbouring residential communities.
