MARGAO: A 13-year-old boy who had gone missing from his boarding hostel was safely rescued on board the Mangaluru Express after a vigilant Konkan Railway staffer intervened.
On December 4, Raghvendra Shetty, Head TTE of Train No. 12133, noticed the minor travelling alone in Coach S3 at Karwar. The child appeared confused and was unable to explain his journey, prompting the TTE to check his belongings, where he found a school identity card.
Shetty immediately contacted the school authorities, who confirmed that the boy had run away from his hostel.
The child’s mother, a domestic worker, was informed that he had been located and was safe.
He was later handed over to the Railway Protection Force at Udupi, which placed him at a Child Care Centre until arrangements could be made for his return home.
In recognition of his prompt action and sense of responsibility, KRCL CMD Santosh Kumar Jha awarded Raghvendra Shetty ₹5,000.
Konkan Railway commended its staff for their continued dedication to passenger safety and timely handling of sensitive situations.
