PANAJI: The Tuem health facility will be commissioned for public use on February 2, 2026, following a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to assess the progress of the hospital infrastructure and services.
According to an official press note, the review meeting was held on January 26 at 4 p.m. in the presence of the Secretary (Health) and officials from Goa Medical College (GMC), the Public Health Department and the Directorate of Health Services.
After reviewing the readiness of the facility, it was decided that the hospital will be named Government Hospital and Research Center, Tuem (GMC Link). From the commissioning date, 13 outpatient departments (OPDs) will be made operational, including Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, AYUSH, Physiotherapy, Psychiatry, ENT, Radiology and Skin.
These OPDs will be staffed by doctors from Goa Medical College and the Directorate of Health Services, who will provide medical services at the facility.
The government has also decided to deploy all required ancillary manpower, including nurses, multi-tasking staff, facility management, housekeeping and security personnel, before the commissioning date to ensure smooth functioning and avoid inconvenience to the public.
In addition, a dedicated research centre will be established at the Tuem facility to undertake advanced healthcare research in collaboration with the National Centre for Disease Control and other reputed research organisations.
Operational theatres at the hospital are expected to be commissioned within the next four months, as work to make them functional is already underway.
The Tuem hospital has been developed as a critical healthcare facility for Pernem and surrounding areas, and its commissioning is expected to significantly reduce the need for patients to travel to North Goa District Hospital and Goa Medical College, Bambolim, for treatment.
