PORVORIM: The Tuem Hospital Kruti Samiti has urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to ensure that Tuem Hospital is made operational at the earliest, failing which the committee has announced a series of agitations.
Addressing the media after a meeting with Chief Minister Sawant, members of the Kruti Samiti said that if the hospital does not start functioning soon, they will launch a hunger strike agitation from January 11 to January 15 outside the Tuem Hospital premises.
The Samiti further stated that if their demand continues to be ignored even after the hunger strike, they will intensify the agitation by organising a mashal yatra (torchlight march) from Tuem Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Tuem Hospital Action Committee strongly opposed any move to shift the existing Tuem Community Health Center (CHC) to the new Tuem Hospital. The committee reiterated its demand that the facility should be started as the “Goa Medical College Link Hospital,” as originally planned.
The Action Committee warned that any attempt to downgrade or change the original purpose of the hospital would be unacceptable.
It has decided to hold a chain hunger strike if the government fails to honour its commitment. In this regard, the committee has also submitted a written statement to the authorities outlining its demands.
The committees reiterated that the immediate functioning of Tuem Hospital with adequate medical facilities is crucial for providing timely healthcare services to residents of Tuem and surrounding areas, and asserted that the agitation will continue until their demands are met.
