New Delhi: The second round of the Goa Premier Division League three day matches began on Thursday with strong performances from Salgaocar Cricket Club and Geno Sports Club across different venues in Goa.
At the Bandodkar Ground, Salgaocar Cricket Club posted a competitive total of 285 in 74.5 overs after choosing to bat first against Chowgule Sports Club. Tunish Sawkar led the charge with a brisk 81, while Shaantanu Nevagi provided stability with a composed 45. Captain Yash Kasvankar contributed 32 runs and Azaan Thota added 26 at the top of the order. Lower order contributions from Ruthvik Naik with 21, Ayush Verlekar with 18 and Yogesh Kauthankar with 16 helped push the score close to the 300 mark.
For Chowgule Sports Club, Shubham Tari impressed with the ball, claiming four wickets. Darshan Misal took two wickets, while Mithil Karekar and Kaustubh Pingulkar picked up one each. In response, Chowgule made a steady start and reached 41 for 1 in 13 overs by stumps. Sanath Nevagi scored 23 while Gauresh Kambli remained unbeaten on 9 as the team trailed by 244 runs.
At the NAPEX Ground, Dempo Cricket Club were bowled out for 262 in 87.3 overs after electing to bat against Margao Cricket Club. Captain Snehal Kauthankar top scored with a well crafted 89 off 127 balls. Mohit Yadav made 35, Aaditya Kota added 28, while Saniket Palkar scored 25. For Margao, Anuj Yadav delivered an outstanding spell, claiming six wickets. Rudresh Sharma picked up two wickets while Deeparaj Gaonkar and Udit Yadav took one each. Margao Cricket Club had not begun their first innings at the close of play.
Meanwhile at the GCA Ground Porvorim, Geno Sports Club produced a dominant batting display to reach 309 in 69.1 overs. Nihal Surlakar led the scoring with an impressive 90, while captain Samar Dubhashi added 59. Kaushal Hattangadi contributed 33 and Pundalik Naik scored 32 to strengthen the total.
In reply, Panjim Gymkhana were 47 for 2 in 16 overs at stumps. Bansil Pandya scored 25 while Suyash Prabhudessai remained unbeaten on 12 as Geno Sports Club ended the day firmly in control with a 262 run lead.
