PANAJI: The Goa Police Crime Branch has filed a 304-page chargesheet in the sensational Assagao house demolition and abduction case, naming 13 individuals as accused.
The case, which drew public and political attention due to its brazen nature and alleged links to influential individuals, revolves around the illegal demolition of a house in the scenic Assagao village in North Goa and the alleged abduction of two persons residing there.
According to the chargesheet, the accused allegedly used an excavator to raze a residential structure without any legal sanction.
The two occupants were reportedly abducted during the incident, triggering serious concerns over land-grab tactics and misuse of power in Goa’s booming real estate market.
Among those initially named in the case was Pooja, the wife of an intelligence officer.
Although she was issued multiple summons by the Crime Branch, she failed to appear for questioning.
Anticipating arrest, she filed for anticipatory bail and was later
granted protection from arrest.
She has not been named in the chargesheet due to a lack of direct evidence, according to police sources.
The case was initially handled by the Anjuna police before being handed over to the Crime Branch due to its complexity and wider implications.
During the course of the investigation, police arrested six individuals, including an excavator operator and a prominent real estate businessman believed to be connected to the demolition.
This case has highlighted the growing concern over illegal land encroachments and property disputes in Goa, particularly in areas like Assagao that have become hotspots for luxury real estate developments.
The Crime Branch continues to probe the wider network potentially involved in such activities.
