MAPUSA: A local court has granted nine days of police custody to two individuals in connection with the armed robbery at the residence of Dr. Mahendra Ghanekar in Ganeshpuri, Mapusa.
The accused, Santosh Babu B (27) and Safikul Rohul Amir (37), both originally from Bengaluru, were apprehended by Mapusa Police on Tuesday and produced before the Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class on Wednesday. The remand will allow police to continue their investigation.
The robbery took place on October 7, when a gang of armed men reportedly entered Dr. Ghanekar’s home, held the family at knifepoint, and stole valuables. The two arrested men are believed to have connections with members of the gang and are suspected of aiding the escape of six other suspects to Bangladesh following the crime.
Using technical and human intelligence inputs, Goa Police traced and apprehended the suspects nearly a week after the incident. A case has been registered under the applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The investigation is being led by PSI Yashwant Mandrekar, under the supervision of Mapusa PI Nikhil Palekar, and is ongoing to determine the full extent of the accused’s involvement and to identify any additional suspects.
