OLD GOA: The Old Goa Police have arrested two men in connection with the brutal assault of a stray dog, a disturbing incident that came to light after a video of the act went viral on social media last week.
According to the police, the offence was registered on May 6, 2025, following a complaint filed by Mr. Stephen Samuel, Field Officer of the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA). In the complaint, Mr. Samuel alleged that two unidentified individuals were seen mercilessly beating a stray dog with wooden sticks, causing grievous injuries to the animal.
An FIR was registered under Cr. No. 66/2025 at Old Goa Police Station under Section 325 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
During the course of the investigation, CCTV footage from the area was thoroughly examined. The accused were identified as Jogindar Singh (32), a driver, and Anil Kumar (28), both residing near the Bharat Petrol Pump on Kadamba Bypass Road, Old Goa. Both individuals reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
They were arrested on May 12, 2025, and later released on bail after furnishing sureties.
The investigation team comprised PSI Saish Bhonsale, PSI Anish Naik, PC Sudesh Sawant (6052), and PC Gitesh Gawas, under the supervision of PI Vijaykumar Chodankar of Old Goa Police Station. The case is being overseen by SDPO Panaji Shri Sudesh Naik and SP North Shri Rahul Gupta, IPS.
Further investigation is currently underway.
