Mapusa: In a major breakthrough in an alleged multi-crore land grab case, Mapusa Police have arrested two individuals—Devidas and Vaman—for their suspected role in forging documents and fabricating a will to unlawfully seize nearly 2.8 lakh square metres of ancestral property in Corjuem, Aldona.
The arrests were made after the district court rejected their anticipatory bail applications earlier this week. Police officials confirmed that a total of six people have been named in the FIR for alleged criminal conspiracy, impersonation, and document forgery. Among those named are a land broker, a woman, and an unidentified individual.
According to investigators, the accused allegedly created a fake will to falsely claim inheritance of the high-value land, spread across several prime survey numbers. The forged documents were then submitted for property mutation and registration in a bid to legitimise the fraudulent transfer. The land is estimated to be worth over ₹100 crore at prevailing market rates.
The case came to light when multiple legal heirs of the deceased owner approached the police, flagging a suspected conspiracy to usurp their ancestral property. The FIR names six accused: Vishant (land broker), Suhasini, Prakash, Vaman, Devidas, and one unidentified person.
Authorities are also probing the possible involvement of a public notary, a stamp vendor, and a legal professional, who are suspected of facilitating the fraudulent documentation process. A manhunt is currently underway to trace and apprehend the remaining four accused.
