PANAJI: Two people have been taken into custody by the Goa Police’s Crime Branch for allegedly trafficking Goan women abroad under the guise of hiring them as housemaids.
Sayyed Abdulla Shaikh, 35, of Katem, Baina, and Mastan Khan, also called Pathan, of Margao, has been identified as the accused.
The founder of the NGO ARZ (Anyay Rahit Zindagi), Arunendra Pandey, reportedly submitted a written complaint, according to the police.
According to the complaint, a woman was duped by Sayyed Abdulla Shaikh and Mastan Khan into accepting a position as a housemaid in Muscat with a guaranteed pay upon arrival.
However, the victim was restricted to an apartment about 11 o’clock after landing in Muscat.
However, the victim was denied suitable housing and food after landing in Muscat and was forced to live in an apartment with eleven other Indian women.
After that, the girl was put to work in a home where she allegedly received requests for sexual favors. According to the Emigration Act of 1983, the accused were not registered as recruiting agents, the police stated.
Sections 143, 143(2), and 318(1) read with Section 10 of the Emigration Act 1983 and Section 3(5) of the BNS 2023 have been registered as offenses. The current investigation is being led by Inspector Neend G. Deulkar.
During interrogation, both accused confessed to their involvement in the crime.
Meanwhile, the police have announced plans to coordinate with the Indian Embassy in Oman, via the Ministry of Home Affairs, to facilitate the rescue of the other stranded women.
