Old Goa: Old Goa Police registered two separate cases of illegal Matka gambling on Monday, January 5, 2026, and arrested two persons who were later released on bail after completing formalities.
In the first incident, a complaint was lodged by Shri Chandrashekar S. Amonkar, Assistant Sub-Inspector attached to Old Goa Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police stated that at around 2.45 pm near Saha Arcade Building, St. Cruz, Tiswadi, accused Subham s/o Shankar Adkonkar (32), resident of H. No. 50/A, St. Cruz Band, Tiswadi, was caught red-handed while accepting Matka bets in an open public place.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to ₹1,410 in different denominations along with other gambling-related articles from the accused. He was arrested at 4.53 pm and subsequently released on surety at 5.31 pm. Further investigation in the case is being carried out by ASI C.S. Amonkar.
In another case registered the same evening, a complaint was filed on behalf of the State by HC-4826 Shri Dinesh Mulgaonkar of Old Goa Police Station. As per the complaint, at around 9.40 pm near Madonna Pharmacy, St. Cruz, Tiswadi, accused Sandeep s/o Parshuram Naik (30), occupation business, resident of H. No. 129, Bandar Caranzalem, Taleigao, Tiswadi, was found accepting money for Matka gambling.
Police said the accused was issuing slips with numerical figures written on them and was found in possession of ₹950 in different denominations (₹500 x 1, ₹200 x 1, ₹100 x 2 and ₹50 x 1) from his pant pocket. He was placed under arrest at 10.35 pm after following all Supreme Court guidelines and was released on bail the same day at 10.45 pm with one local surety.
Further investigation in the second case is being conducted by HC-4826 Dinesh Mulgaonkar, Old Goa Police Station.
