Valpoi: In a joint operation conducted today by the Valpoi Police and officers from the Veterinary Dispensary, Valpoi, two individuals were arrested for the illegal slaughter and sale of bovine meat in Nagem, Sattari.
According to SDPO Jivba Dalvi, the inspection revealed multiple violations at the premises. Subsequently, an FIR was registered against Shaikh Cold Storage and Al Khan Storage under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 8 of the Goa Animal Preservation Act, 1995, Section 11(1)(i) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Section 3 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1978. The complaint was filed by Dr. Shiddesh S. Pednekar, Veterinary Officer.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
* Mudassar Shaikh, resident of Valpoi, Sattari, North Goa.
* Riyaz Khan, resident of House No. 115, Ward No. 08, Thane Road, Valpoi, Sattari, North Goa.
Both individuals were allegedly engaged in the illegal sale of red-colored bovine meat after carrying out unauthorized slaughter activities in a cruel manner. During the operation, police seized approximately 750 kilograms of beef valued at ₹3 lakh, along with slaughtering equipment including knives, a cutting machine, and a weighing scale.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Sohan Malik under the supervision of PI Videsh Shirodkar, SDPO Bicholim Jivba Dalvi, and Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Akshay Kaushal, IPS.
