PANAJI: Panaji Police registered two separate cases under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976, after two persons were caught red-handed accepting money bets from the public in open areas on Monday evening.
In the first case, registered at 18:52 hours on October 13, police apprehended Satish Gawas (40), a resident of Talewadi Mangeli, Dodamarg, Sindhudurg, near Madkakar Building, Bhatlem, Panaji. He was allegedly found accepting money bets as a game of chance. Police seized ₹1,250 in cash along with other gambling materials. Gawas was arrested and later released the same evening.
In the second incident, registered at 22:53 hours the same night, police arrested Sanjay Patil (51), originally from Belgaum, Karnataka, and residing at Nagali Hill, Taleigao. He was caught accepting money bets on numerical digital numbers near KGN Restaurant, Panaji. A similar seizure of ₹1,250 in cash and gambling articles was made. Patil was also released later that night.
Both operations were conducted by Panaji Police under the supervision of Head Constables Satish Maje (HC 5256) and Pandurang Gawas (HC 5933) respectively.
