Panaji: Police have registered two separate cases under the Goa Public Gambling Act against individuals allegedly involved in illegal gambling activities at different locations in Tiswadi taluka on February 9, 2026.
In the first case, Panaji Police registered Crime No. 20/2026 under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa Public Gambling Act at around 8.57 pm on the basis of a state complaint filed by Head Constable Samir Naik (5108) of Panaji Police Station.
Police stated that at about 6.55 pm, near City Bakery at Mira Flores Building, next to a car painter showroom at St Inez, Panaji, the accused, Ramraj Saroj (38), a resident of Janki Building near EDC House, Panaji, originally hailing from Bijhauli, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, was caught red-handed while accepting money bets on numerical digital numbers as a game of chance in an open public place.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to ₹2,450 in different denominations along with other gambling-related articles. The accused was arrested at 9.01 pm and was subsequently released on the same day at 9.27 pm. Further investigation in the case is being conducted by HC Samir Naik of Panaji Police Station.
In another incident, a separate case was registered following a state complaint filed by ASI Mohammad Rafik Jambotkar at around 10.20 pm. Police informed that at about 9 pm near Malik petrol pump at Corlim, the accused, Mohmad Hunachyal (39), was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting money from members of the public and issuing them slips of paper, suspected to be linked to gambling activities.
Police recovered cash of ₹1,200 in different denominations from his possession. Further investigation in this case is in progress under the supervision of ASI Mohammad Jambotkar.
Police have reiterated that action will continue against those involved in illegal gambling activities in public places.
