QUEPEM: Quepem Police have registered two separate offences in connection with the illegal extraction of laterite dimension stones at Rivona in Sanguem taluka and Maina in Quepem taluka, causing loss to the State Government of Goa.
In the first case, registered on a complaint filed by Ameet Shetgaonkar, Junior Geologist, Directorate of Mines and Geology, Panaji, police said that prior to December 15, 2025, and before 12.05 pm, unknown landowners allegedly illegally extracted laterite dimension stones at village Rivona, Sanguem taluka, without obtaining prior permission from the competent authority.
The illegal activity amounted to theft and caused financial loss to the State Government.
Further investigation in the case is in progress with LPSI Rifha Barretto of Quepem Police Station.
In the second case, based on a complaint filed by Shyam Sawant, Geologist, Directorate of Mines and Geology, Panaji, police said that prior to December 15, 2025, and before 10.50 am, unknown landowners allegedly illegally extracted laterite dimension stones at village Maina of Quepem taluka, without obtaining prior permission from the competent authority, thereby committing theft and causing loss to the State Government. Further investigation in this case is being carried out by PSI Digamber Bondre of Quepem Police Station.
