Panaji: In a shocking incident that has rocked the police force, two police personnel attached to branches under the North Goa Superintendent of Police have been booked and suspended for allegedly outraging the modesty of a woman outside a pub in Patto, Panaji.
As per the FIR (Crime No. 104/25) registered at the Panaji Police Station on 24 July 2025, the incident occurred on the night of 23 July at 9:40 PM, near the entrance of a popular pub in Patto.
According to the complaint filed by the woman, a resident of Panaji, the accused — Omkar Jadhav and Mayur Naik — acting in common intention, allegedly touched her inappropriately, used obscene language, and verbally harassed her with derogatory remarks including “Mere sath chalogi kya?” and “Kitna paisa legi tu?” The complaint further states that one of the accused struck her on the forehead with a mobile phone, causing injury.
The case has been registered under Sections 74, 79, 118, and 352 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Further investigation is underway, led by LPSI Sapna Gawas of the Panaji Police Station.
Confirming the action taken, the senior officer of the Panaji Police Station stated, “As soon as the crime was reported, both police constables were immediately suspended. Such behavior is completely unacceptable in a disciplined force.”
Additionally, a show cause notice has been issued to a third police personnel who had accompanied the accused on the night of the incident. Strict disciplinary action has been promised against all involved.
The case has drawn widespread condemnation, with calls for zero tolerance toward abuse of power and misconduct within the law enforcement ranks.
