MARGAO: The electricity department has suspended two employees — a lower division clerk (LDC) and a head clerk (HC) — from its Aquem office after an audit revealed misappropriation of more than ₹8 lakh collected as consumer bill payments in Chinchinim.
Superintending Engineer Rajiv Samant confirmed that the malpractice, dating back to June–July 2025, came to light during an inspection.
According to officials, LDC Rizwana Perviz allegedly accepted payments from consumers but failed to deposit the money in the bank as mandated. The daily collections were neither credited nor were the bank slips submitted to HC Jose Sebastiano Fernandes for records.
The audit exposed that the amounts never reached the bank, prompting an internal probe. The LDC has since refunded the misused sum, authorities said.
Both staff members have been suspended pending a detailed investigation and instructed to report to the head office in Panaji for departmental proceedings.
