BICHOLIM: Police in Sankhalim booked two persons on Tuesday for allegedly accepting money bets in public places.
In the first case, Shambu Jalmi (46), resident of Deulwada, Virdi-Sankhalim, was caught near the Sankhalim fish market around 11.50 am while allegedly accepting bets. Police seized ₹1,100 in cash and other gambling articles from his possession. He was arrested at 12.55 pm and later released on bail.
In a separate incident the same day, Suryakant Gawas (61), resident of Ambegal, Pale-Sankhalim, was caught at 10.55 am at Pale market while allegedly accepting bets. Police seized ₹1,030 in cash along with gambling material. He too was arrested at 1 pm and released on bail.
Both offences were registered under Section 11(2)(a) of the Public Gambling Act, and investigations are being conducted by ASI Ramdas Tari of Bicholim Police Station.
