VALPOI: Police in Sattari and Bicholim booked two men on Wednesday after they were allegedly caught red-handed while accepting bets in open public places.
In Valpoi, police said Premanand Arjun Bagi (45) of Savorcem, Sattari, was nabbed near Kalika Hotel, Savorshem around 4.30 pm while accepting matka bets. Cash of ₹300 and other gambling articles were seized from him. He was placed under arrest at 7.11 pm and released on bail later the same evening.
In a separate case, Bicholim Police arrested Santosh Laxman Ghadi (55) of Kasarpal, Assonora, after he was found accepting bets near Sandipak Hall, Dodamarg around 7.05 pm. Cash of ₹1,020 and gambling articles were seized from him. He was arrested at 7.48 pm and released on bail shortly after.
Both cases have been registered under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976, and investigations are in progress.
