PANAJI: Panaji Police registered two separate cases on April 8 and arrested two persons for allegedly accepting matka bets at public places in Tiswadi.
In the first case, based on the complaint of HC Pandurang Gawas of Panaji Police Station, police apprehended Rodrappa Talwar (52), a resident of St Inez, Panaji, at around 3:50 pm near National Lalkies, Punan, Tiswadi.
The accused was allegedly caught red-handed accepting money bets on numerical digital numbers as a game of chance from members of the public.
Police seized cash amounting to ₹1,350 in different denominations along with other gambling articles.
In another case registered at 7:51 pm, based on the complaint of HC Sainath Vaipankar, police arrested Ali Shaikh (28), a resident of Ramnagar, Reis Magos, Bardez.
He was caught at around 5:52 pm near Shantaram Cafe, Caranzalem, while allegedly accepting matka bets in an open public place. Police seized ₹1,240 in cash in different denominations along with other gambling articles.
Further investigation in both cases is in progress with Panaji Police.
