PANAJI: In a continued crackdown on illegal matka gambling, Panaji Police registered two separate cases on Saturday evening after apprehending men red-handed while accepting bets in public places.
In the first incident, at around 5.40 pm, police nabbed Sandeep Naik (31), resident of Bandar, Taleigao, at Hotel Lorena, Satismowado, Taleigao. Cash amounting to ₹1,170 and other gambling articles were seized from his possession. A case was registered under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act.
In a separate raid conducted around the same time near Fadte Arts Janki Building, opposite EDC Building, Panaji, police caught Pravin Maurya (25) of Uttar Pradesh red-handed while accepting matka bets. Cash of ₹1,420 along with gambling materials was seized.
Both accused have been booked and further investigation is in progress.
