Bicholim: Police have arrested two men in connection with a chain-snatching incident that took place in December last year at Bhamai Pale, Bicholim, in which gold jewellery worth ₹2.2 lakh was stolen from a woman.
According to police, on December 5, 2024, two unidentified men on a black motorcycle allegedly snatched a 40-gram gold mangalsutra and a 12-gram gold daul from complainant Sanika Naik, before fleeing the spot. A case under Section 304 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Bicholim Police Station.
On August 5, 2025, the accused — identified as Abbas Aslam Jaidi (34) of Thane, Maharashtra, and Sharif Shaha Samsher Shaha (35) of Nashik, Maharashtra — were arrested on transfer body warrant from JMFC Mapusa Court, where they were already in custody in connection with another case investigated by Old Goa Police.
During interrogation, the duo allegedly confessed to selling the stolen jewellery at Shivaji Nagar, Pune. A police team from Bicholim, led by PSI Krishna Gawas and PSI Rashmir Parab Matonkar, recovered the stolen mangalsutra during an operation carried out under the supervision of PI Vijay Rane Sardesai, SDPO Wilson D’Souza, and overall supervision of SP North, Rahul Gupta.
Both accused have been remanded to seven days’ police custody. Further investigation is underway.
