PANAJI: Panaji Police registered two separate gambling cases after arresting two individuals who were allegedly caught red-handed accepting matka bets in public areas within the city.
In the first case, police booked Divakar Gawas (39) at around 4:45 pm on December 6, following a state complaint filed by HC Anil G. Kurtikar.
Gawas was reportedly found accepting matka bets from the public at Madkaikar Building, Bhatlem at around 3 pm. Officers seized ₹1,045 in cash along with gambling articles from his possession.
He was arrested and later released on bail at 5:29 pm after due procedures were followed, including informing his friend, Nitin Taleigaonkar, about the arrest. Police stated that all Supreme Court guidelines were adhered to.
In the second incident the same evening, Panaji Police registered another offence against Sahil Mulla (24), who was held at Tambadi Mati, opposite TB Hospital, St. Inez, at around 6:48 pm. He was allegedly accepting matka bets from the public at 5:10 pm.
Officers seized ₹1,260 in cash and gambling material during the operation. His arrest intimation was given to his friend, Munir Bellur, and he was released on bail at 7:25 pm.
Further investigation in both cases is being conducted by HC Anil G. Kurtikar of Panaji Police Station.
