PANAJI: Panaji Police registered two separate cases of illegal betting on Wednesday evening, detaining two individuals who were allegedly caught red-handed accepting bets in public areas.
The first offence, registered as Panaji PS Cr. No. 170/2025 under Section 11(2)(a) of the GPG Act, was filed on the complaint of HC Sainath Vaigankar. At around 7:15 pm near Models Courtyard, Durgawadi, Taleigao, the accused, Suraj Madiwar, 36, a resident of Taleigao and native of Karwar, Karnataka, was allegedly found accepting bets in numerical figures.
A personal search reportedly led to the seizure of ₹1,140 in various denominations. Suraj was arrested at 9:06 pm and released on bail at 9:12 pm after following Supreme Court guidelines.
In another incident the same night, Panaji Police registered Cr. No. 171/2025 under Section 11(2)(a) of the GPG Act based on the complaint of HC Samir Naik.
At around 8:50 pm near Avyukt General Store, Patto, Panaji, the accused, Bimal Kumar Yadav, 36, a resident of Altinho, Panaji, was allegedly found taking money bets on digital numerical figures as a game of chance.
Police reportedly seized ₹1,480 in cash along with other gambling articles. Yadav was arrested at 10:39 pm and released on bail at 10:51 pm the same day.
Investigations in both cases are being carried out by the respective Investigating Officers of Panaji Police Station.
