OLD GOA/BICHOLIM: Police in two different jurisdictions on Wednesday booked two individuals for allegedly accepting matka bets in public places.
In the first incident, Old Goa Police registered Cr. No. 139/2025 at 10.59 pm on December 10 under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa Public Gambling Act, following a complaint by ASI Chandrashekar S. Amonkar.
At around 9.50 pm, the accused Mohammad Rafeeq Buwaji (34), resident of Indira Nagar, Chimbel, was allegedly caught red-handed accepting matka bets near Chaudhary Chicken Shop, Indira Nagar.
Police seized ₹1,290 in various denominations, along with other gambling articles from his possession. Further investigation is underway.
In a separate case, Bicholim Police registered an offence on December 11 after LASI Vibhavari V. Gawas lodged a complaint stating that at around 12 noon, at Tikhazan–Mayem junction, the accused Babani Parwar (36), resident of Mulgao, was found accepting money bets from the public. Police seized ₹1,030 and other gambling materials from him. Further investigation is in progress.
