New Delhi:
On Thursday, in his parliamentary constituency of Rae Bareli, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally where he vehemently criticized the current state of economic inequality in India. Gandhi’s speech underscored the stark contrast between the lives of the wealthy and those of the hardworking masses, emphasizing that the country is being divided into two distinct Indias.
Gandhi pointed out that during the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous loans were forgiven for the wealthy, while farmers, unemployed youth, and hardworking individuals continued to struggle. “We are witnessing the creation of two Indias,” he said. “On one side, there are people who can afford anything they want, whereas on the other side, there are those who are barely making ends meet.”
He attributed this economic disparity to the policies implemented by the Narendra Modi government, particularly highlighting the detrimental effects of demonetization on small businesses. “The Modi government’s policies have decimated small businesses, leading us to this point,” Gandhi added.
Gandhi also stressed the importance of the Constitution in safeguarding the rights of common citizens. Holding up the Constitution, he remarked, “This document is the voice of the people of India. It is because of the Constitution that the poor, laborers, farmers, and small traders have a voice in this country.” He honored the contributions of national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar, and Jawaharlal Nehru, who fought against British rule to give India its Constitution.
Gandhi expressed concern that those in power are now undermining the Constitution. “It is the duty of political parties and the media to protect the Constitution,” he emphasized.
Recalling his extensive Bharat Jodo Yatra, which took place from September 2022 to 2023, Gandhi reiterated the message of unity and love. “We walked 4000 kilometers from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, spreading the message that this country is built on love, not hatred. A country divided by hatred cannot progress,” he said.
During his visit to Rae Bareli, Gandhi unveiled the statue of Rana Beni Madhav Singh and offered prayers at a local temple.
