Assagao: A fire broke out at an electrical warehouse near the Ganapati temple in Assagao on Sunday afternoon, injuring two people while food was being prepared inside the premises.
The incident occurred between 1:00 PM and 2:20 PM when Taimir, the warehouse owner and a native of Odisha, was cooking food. A spark from the gas stove ignited nearby electrical equipment, quickly causing the fire. Reacting swiftly, Taimir disconnected the gas cylinder to prevent further escalation.
Chandrashekhar Chavan, 35, from Maharashtra, who works at an electrical shop owned by Taimir about 50 meters away, rushed to the scene armed with a fire extinguisher to control the blaze. During his efforts to extinguish the fire, Chandrashekhar sustained injuries and was promptly taken to Mapusa District Hospital by ambulance. Taimir declined medical treatment at the hospital.
The Mapusa Fire Station was alerted, and Fire Sub-Officer along with firefighting personnel arrived swiftly, managing to bring the fire under control.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental ignition of electrical items from the stove spark, and a further investigation is likely underway.
