DABOLIM: Two persons were injured in a head-on collision between an ambulance and a private car near St Jacinto Island along the national highway in Dabolim on Tuesday afternoon.
According to sources, the ambulance (GA06 T 9053) was en route to Panjim, while the Maruti Baleno (GA08 AA 9739) was heading towards Vasco when the accident occurred. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the deployment of airbags in the Baleno. Despite this, the car’s driver sustained grievous injuries and was immediately shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) in Bambolim for treatment.
The front of the Baleno was completely mangled, and the ambulance also suffered considerable damage. The collision caused a temporary disruption in traffic flow along the busy national highway.
Fortunately, there was no patient inside the ambulance at the time of the incident. Traffic police responded promptly, managing the congestion and assisting in restoring normal traffic flow. Both drivers were reported to be out of danger and are currently undergoing treatment.
Personnel from the Vasco Fire Department later cleared the road of broken glass and debris. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
