CALANGUTE: In a disturbing incident highlighting challenges to law and order, two intoxicated tourists from Jaipur allegedly attacked police officers while being detained at Calangute on Sunday night.
The tourists reportedly created a disturbance at a hotel before police intervened.
Eyewitnesses claimed the duo tried to assert immunity by stating they were associated with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The Calangute Police have clarified that the tourists had no links to the Bishnoi gang.
Both individuals were under the influence of alcohol at the time and have no prior criminal history.
Officers reported being grabbed and assaulted inside the police vehicle during the transfer to the station, though no serious injuries were sustained.
Authorities stress that such incidents, where law enforcement personnel are directly assaulted, pose a serious threat to public order.
Police have lodged formal complaints and are investigating the case under relevant sections of the law.
