Panaji: The Government of Goa has issued a circular directing the observance of a two-minute silence across the State on January 30, 2026, in memory of those who sacrificed their lives during India’s freedom struggle, as part of Martyrs’ Day commemorations.
As per the circular issued by the Department of Home (General), Secretariat, Porvorim, the silence will be observed at 11.00 am, in line with the directions of the Government of India. During this period, all work and movement are to be stopped throughout the State as a mark of respect to the martyrs.
The circular further states that wherever feasible, the commencement and termination of the two-minute silence should be indicated by the sounding of sirens or Army guns. Sirens are to be sounded from 10.59 am to 11.00 am to mark the beginning of the silence, and again from 11.02 am to 11.03 am to signal its conclusion. This procedure is to be followed in places where siren systems are available.
On hearing the signal, all persons are required to stand and observe silence. In areas where no signal systems exist, suitable instructions are to be issued by the authorities concerned to ensure that the two-minute silence is observed at 11.00 am.
The circular has been signed by Manthan Manoj Naik, Under Secretary (Home-II), Government of Goa, and calls upon all departments, institutions and the general public to ensure solemn observance of Martyrs’ Day.
