Panaji: In a major breach of examination integrity, two individuals were caught red-handed while impersonating registered candidates during the recruitment typing test conducted by the CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Dona Paula.
In the first incident, reported on July 16 and registered as Panaji Police Station Cr. No. 101/2025 under Sections 242 and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), accused Sonu Kumar (25), son of Shankar Ray, and resident of Maniyarpur, Vaishali district in Bihar, was caught impersonating the genuine candidate Sonu Kumar, son of Satyendra Prasad. The impersonation was detected on July 15, prior to 11:00 am, during the typing test held for the post of Junior Secretariat Assistant and Junior Stenographer under Advertisement No. NIO/02-2025/R&A.
In a separate but similar incident on the following day, Panaji Police registered Cr. No. 102/2025 based on another complaint from Rakesh Shukla, Controller of Administration at CSIR-NIO. The accused, Sunil (29), son of Ravinder and resident of Buwana village, Julna tehsil, Jind, Haryana, was caught impersonating a registered candidate named Ajay between 3:30 pm and 5:00 pm on July 16.
Both cases are being investigated under Sections 242 (identity fraud) and 319 (cheating) of the BNS. PSI Mahesh Naik of Panaji Police Station is leading the investigation.
CSIR-NIO authorities have tightened security and verification protocols following the incidents to ensure the sanctity of the ongoing recruitment process.
