Panaji: In two tragic incidents reported from South Goa, a 25-year-old man and an 18-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide in separate cases of hanging.
The first incident was reported from Simpler Veroda, where Ashok Fadte informed authorities that a person had committed suicide near the local power house.
Police, upon reaching the site, found the body of Yugesh Kumar Mahato, aged 25 and originally from Bihar, hanging from the roof using a cotton towel. Fire brigade personnel broke open the locked door, and 108 ambulance staff confirmed his death.
The body was shifted to South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for postmortem. The autopsy confirmed the cause of death as “asphyxia as a result of hanging.”
The enquiry is being conducted by PSI Sahil Pagui of Cuncolim Police Station.
In the second incident, the Medical Officer of Sub-District Hospital, Ponda, reported the arrival of an 18-year-old girl, Vipra Mardolkar, resident of Mardol, who was brought dead to the casualty department.
Police investigation revealed that she had allegedly hanged herself using a dupatta tied to the ceiling fan in her home. Her body was also sent to SGDH, Margao for postmortem.
The cause of death was certified as “asphyxia as a result of constriction of neck vide injury No. 1.” Enquiry in this case is being handled by PSI Vinod Salunkhe of Mardol Police Station.
Police are investigating the circumstances behind both incidents.
