New Delhi: Security forces have eliminated two terrorists during an encounter in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the Indian Army confirmed on Saturday. The operation, codenamed Operation Pimple, was launched on Friday after intelligence agencies provided specific inputs about an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control.
According to an update shared by the Army’s Chinar Corps, alert troops detected suspicious movement near the border and issued a challenge, prompting the infiltrators to open fire. The exchange led to the terrorists being trapped, and both were subsequently neutralised by the joint team. A search of the surrounding area is underway to ensure no additional infiltrators remain in the vicinity.
The Keran sector, known for repeated infiltration attempts due to its proximity to the LoC, has been under heightened surveillance as winter approaches. Heavy snowfall in the region is expected to close several rugged routes, leading to increased attempts by militants to cross over before the terrain becomes inaccessible.
This latest encounter follows a series of counter terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks. On November 5, security forces exchanged fire with terrorists in the Chatroo region of Kishtwar during an intelligence driven operation involving the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. In another incident on October 13, two terrorists were killed in Kupwara’s Kumbakdi forest after attempting to infiltrate across the LoC.
Kupwara district continues to be a critical zone for anti infiltration efforts, with security agencies maintaining constant watch to prevent militants from entering Indian territory. The Army has reiterated its commitment to neutralising such attempts and safeguarding the region as winter nears and infiltration routes narrow.
