BAMBOLIM: A tragic road accident on the Bambolim Highway in the early hours of Tuesday claimed the lives of two tourists after a tanker, suspected to be speeding, went out of control around 1 a.m., jumped the road divider, and crashed head-on into a rent-a-car coming from the opposite direction.
The impact of the collision was catastrophic, leaving the car completely demolished.
Both occupants of the vehicle died instantly, one of whom was identified as 52-year-old Yogender Singh, a resident of Delhi, who was driving the car at the time of the mishap.
Police teams and emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene.
The victims’ bodies were later shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, for post-mortem examination.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that overspeeding and loss of control of the tanker while descending a slope may have caused the fatal crash.
The police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and any possible negligence involved.
