QUEPEM: House owners rescued two trapped women from a room due to the landslide on Saturday at Taki. The rains have caused havoc in the state. Flood-like conditions and landslides have prevailed in many places causing great inconvenience to the residents.
On Saturday, a landslide behind Mahesh Manjrekar’s house at Taki happened. A major portion of the hill slides down at the rear side of the house and the rocks, and mud entered his house.
The house owner has about four rented rooms in the house, where tenants live, but three of the four tenants had gone to work in the morning, and in one room there was a woman and a girl who was trapped inside. Later the house owner rescued the girl and a woman trapped inside the room.
Meanwhile, the Curchorem Fire Station rescue team reached the spot and tried to clear the mud and debris but a load of landslide was unclearable. The rescue team was standing by till evening as per the information from locals
Also as soon as we got the information about this incident, Quepem Mamlatdar Pratap Rao Gaokar rushed to the spot and inspected it.
Gaokar said that the family had taken shelter in another place for safety because there could be a landslide once again due to heavy rains.
He said today “Many places in the Quepem area are flooded and we are trying to help the people as soon as possible,” Gaokar said.
