DAVORLIM: A two-year-old boy, identified as Shifan Ali, tragically drowned in a wastewater drainage in the Rumdamol Housing Board area. The minor, a resident of the housing board and native of Uttar Pradesh, was discovered lifeless in the drain, which runs beside his residence.
According to the police, Shifan’s death is believed to be an unfortunate accident. Authorities from the Maina Curtorim police station have conducted a thorough inquiry and have stated that there is no suspicion of foul play. The boy likely fell into the drainage while playing outside his home. The body was retrieved from the water with the assistance of local residents after the incident was reported.
A post-mortem examination performed by a medico-legal surgeon confirmed the cause of death as asphyxia due to drowning. Additionally, the viscera has been preserved for further chemical analysis, although no foul play has been suggested.
The boy’s family has been informed, and his body was handed over to them for final rites. While grieving the tragic loss, the family has reportedly not raised any suspicions regarding the circumstances of his death.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious of open and hazardous drainage systems in residential areas and stressed the importance of keeping young children away from such areas.
The police are continuing their investigations to ensure all aspects of the incident are fully understood.
