Navelim: United Club of Verna (UC Verna) marched into the quarterfinals of the 44th Gold Silver Football Tournament, organised by Navelim Sporting Club at Rosary Church Ground, Navelim, with a convincing 4-2 victory over St Anthony SC Marna Siolim.
UC Verna started aggressively, with Roydon Rego almost opening the scoring as early as the second minute, but his effort narrowly missed the target. St Anthony’s Brandon Pereira responded with a powerful shot in the 4th minute that was saved brilliantly.
The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Roydon Rego netted the opener for UC Verna after a deflection off a Marna Siolim defender. Just three minutes later, Roydon doubled the lead with a fine strike, putting UC Verna firmly in control.
UC Verna’s dominance continued, with Meldon Moniz scoring their third goal in the 36th minute. Brandon Pereira missed a golden chance soon after, and UC Verna made it 4-1 through Royson Moniz.
St Anthony SC pulled one back late in the game when Kanaya Gouthkar scored a brace, reducing the deficit to 4-2, but it wasn’t enough to stop UC Verna from sealing the win.
Roydon Rego, who scored twice for UC Verna, was named Man of the Match for his stellar performance.
