Mapusa: In line with the assurances given by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Secretary of the Department of Urban Development (UD) Yatindra M. Maralkar on Tuesday visited the Mapusa Municipal Market to review its condition and functioning.
The inspection was carried out as per the directions issued by the Chief Minister during a meeting held on December 18, where concerns related to the market were discussed. UD Secretary Maralkar was accompanied by Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) Brijesh Manerikar, Chief Officer Chandrakant Shetkar, along with other municipal officers and staff.
Earlier in the afternoon, the UD Secretary visited the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) office, following which he proceeded to the municipal market. The officials took a detailed round of the market premises to inspect infrastructure, cleanliness, facilities, and overall conditions affecting merchants and consumers.
The visit fulfilled the commitment made by the Chief Minister to the Mapusa Market Association (MMA) committee during the December 18 meeting.
On behalf of the MMA committee and the merchant community, former MMA president Shripad Sawant and MMA secretary Siddesh Raut welcomed the UD Secretary and other dignitaries at the Mapusa market.
The inspection is expected to pave the way for addressing long-pending issues of the market and improving facilities for traders and the public.
