ST CRUZ: On the occasion of the International Day of Yoga, the Urban Health and Training Centre (UHTC), St. Cruz, actively participated in the nationwide Yoga Sangam initiative, reinforcing the importance of yoga in preventive health and holistic well-being.
The event began with an address by Dr. Amit Dias, Assistant Professor and In-Charge of the Centre, who emphasized that “the true benefits of yoga can only be achieved through regular daily practice.” He highlighted this year’s theme, Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” which reflects the role of yoga in fostering harmony between humans and the environment.
As part of the observance, residents and medical interns at the Centre conducted demonstrations of simple yet impactful yoga postures for patients and attendees in the OPD. The session aimed to encourage practical adoption of yoga in daily routines.
A key highlight was the launch of a community survey to assess attitudes toward yoga, aiming to identify barriers and motivators influencing its practice among the local population.
The event also introduced the concept of “Y-Break at Work” — short, office-friendly yoga routines that help reduce stress and correct posture. Additionally, Chair Yoga techniques were taught to make yoga accessible to people across age groups and physical abilities.
An engaging quiz on yoga and health added an interactive element to the programme, with enthusiastic participation from both staff and patients.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Durgesh Sawant, and Anshu Naik anchored the event as compère.
UHTC St. Cruz, a training centre under the Department of Community Medicine at Goa Medical College, continues to promote preventive health practices. The observance of International Yoga Day is part of its ongoing mission to foster healthy lifestyles and encourage evidence-based wellness in the community.
