CANACONA: Panic gripped residents of Canacona after an unattended maroon-colored suitcase was found abandoned along the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road (MPCBR), near the Kindlebhag area, just metres before the Talpona bridge.
The suspicious trolley bag was first noticed by a local scribe who was riding towards Maxem on the MPCBR.
Seeing the suitcase lying by the roadside without anyone nearby, the journalist sensed something amiss and immediately alerted Canacona Police Inspector Harish Raut Desai.
Responding swiftly, PI Desai assured immediate action and dispatched a police beat team along with personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services department.
He also requested the journalist to keep an eye on the area until officials arrived.
Within 5–10 minutes, the police team reached the spot and cautiously approached the suitcase.
Upon inspection, the bag was found to be lightweight and was carefully opened. To everyone’s relief, the suitcase contained nothing more than another bag filled with old, unusable clothes.
The incident, although resolved without harm, sparked brief tension among locals, especially in the context of recent bomb hoax threats received by government offices across the country.
The visible and unattended nature of the suitcase in a public space raised immediate security concerns.
Police have not ruled out the possibility that someone may have deliberately discarded the bag, and have appealed to the public to report any suspicious objects or activities.
