THIVIM: A 72-year-old man lost his life after being knocked down by an underage rider on an electric scooter at Dhanva, Thivim, on Saturday evening.
Police said the victim, Ramchandra Narayan Shirodkar, a resident of Dhanva, was walking along the road when a speeding OLA S-1 Pro electric scooter (GA-03/AG-9692) ridden by a 17-year-old boy dashed into him around 6.45 pm. The victim sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to GMC Bambolim, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.
The pillion rider, identified as 14-year-old Ludson Nagraj Pachala, sustained minor injuries and was discharged after treatment.
Investigations revealed that the scooter belonged to Frannoy Fernandes of Thivim, who knowingly allowed the juvenile, who did not hold a driving licence, to operate the vehicle by sharing the access password.
Colvale Police have registered an offence against the owner as well as the juvenile rider for rash and negligent driving, riding without licence, and causing death due to negligence. Further investigation is in progress.
