DELHI: Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu has dismissed rumors suggesting that the black box from the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash was sent overseas for analysis. He clarified that the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder are currently being examined by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
The ill-fated aircraft, which crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad en route to London on June 12, resulted in the tragic loss of 241 lives. The black box was recovered promptly from the crash site the following day.
Minister Naidu emphasized that a comprehensive inquiry is in progress under the supervision of the AAIB, following all standard protocols to determine the cause of the accident. He assured the public that the investigation is being conducted with full transparency and utmost diligence.
Additionally, the government has established a high-level committee to assist with the probe, expecting to submit its findings within three months. The Minister’s statement aims to clear any misconceptions and update the public on the current status of the investigation.
The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex, causing substantial damage and additional ground casualties. A high-level panel has been established to determine the causes of the accident, with the investigation reportedly progressing smoothly. Despite media suggestions that international expertise might be sought for the black box analysis, Naidu was unequivocal in his response to reporters: “…it is all speculation. The black box is very much in India and it is currently being investigated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).” This statement affirms the government’s commitment to conducting a thorough domestic investigation.
