Navelim: Union of Chinchinim Villagers clinched the U-17 Girls State Football Championship title after a thrilling 6-5 victory over Compassion SC via a penalty shootout at the Sinquetim football ground in Navelim. The match ended 2-2 at full time, leading to a tense tiebreaker.
Acira Fernandes was the star performer for Chinchinim, netting both goals during regular play. Sienna Fernandes matched the feat for Compassion SC, scoring twice to keep her side in contention.
In the penalty shootout, Chinchinim Villagers held their nerve with successful conversions from Acira Fernandes, Neha Verlecar, Keren D’Souza, and Meara Mascarenhas. For Compassion SC, Sienna Fernandes, Amanda Dias, and Jazmine Fernandes found the target, but it wasn’t enough to clinch the title.
The victory marks a significant achievement for Union of Chinchinim Villagers, showcasing the growing talent in grassroots girls’ football across Goa.
