CHIMBEL: The survey ordered to examine whether the proposed Unity Mall project falls within the zone of influence began today, a day after it was deferred following objections from local villagers.
Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department (WRD) and Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) consultant Pramod Badami said the survey is being conducted as per government directions by a joint team comprising officials from the Wetland Authorities, GTDC, and subject experts.
He stated that media personnel are not being allowed during the survey process to avoid any disturbance, and that a detailed briefing will be held after the survey is completed.
The survey was deferred yesterday after villagers objected to officials carrying out an inspection limited only to the proposed Unity Mall site. Residents demanded that the assessment should cover the entire stretch from Toyyar Lake up to the mall location.
Following discussions, villagers and authorities agreed to conduct a comprehensive assessment.
The survey being carried out today includes both a physical inspection and an analysis using Google imagery to determine the project’s zone of influence.
The outcome of the survey is expected to play a key role in deciding the future course of the Unity Mall project.
